Los Angeles-based songwriter Anna St. Louis made her debut last year with ´First Songs,´ a cassette of eight tracks released via Mare Records. Now, St. Louis announces her debut album ´If Only There Was a River,´ produced Kyle Thomas of King Tuff, to be released on October 12.
NPR announced the record yesterday and premiered the video for the wistful first single“Understand,” saying the song “lopes along like Loretta Lynn backed by sweeping strings and the loose vibe of Van Morrison’s Moondance band. It’s a familiar sound, yes, and it evenchannels some of Karen Dalton’s oblong, hiccuping soul. But St. Louis’ lonesome howl seeks more questions than answers, certain that there’s more truth in uncertainty.”
