Headliners for one of America’s most important festivals, Coachella, leaked weeks ago; so now that the full lineup is out, we are not so shocked to see The Weeknd, Beyoncé and Eminen at the top of the bill. But there were some surprises (aside from the missing traditional rock performers) so let’s talk about the acts we didn’t expect to see at this year’s line up:

5. David Byrne

With this year’s lineup heavily relying on hip hop acts, there were a few surprises and throwbacks such as Jamiroquai (who haven’t toured in the US in years) and former Talking Heads frontman, David Byrne.

4. Chic feat. Nile Rodgers

Chic featuring Nile Rodgers is also one of the throwback acts we’ll be seeing at this year’s fest, and most likely will be a disco-funk dance party.

3. Los Angeles Azules

Sure they have been playing since the 80’s but nobody expected to see mexican band Los Angeles Azules in the same festival Beyoncé  and Eminem are headlining. “From Iztapalapa to the world” is the motto from the band that will bring their latin flavor to the Indio fest so get ready to dance cumbias ’til your feet hurt.

2. Rezz

Rezz is a psychedelic glasses wearing 22-year old female DJ in the rising. She’s cosigned by Deadmau5 and Skrillex and wasn’t on anyone’s list to play at the most prominent music stage in North America. This year is promising to become a big one for women.

1. Cardi B

With the year she’s had, it wasn’t really a susprise that Cardi B got a call for Coachella; but, although she dethroned Taylor Swift from the top of the charts, given her musical resume what comes as a surprise is the top spot she scored ahead of some more established acts, like Miguel.

Coachella comes this spring in April 13 to 15 and April 20 to 22, to Indio, California. Festival passes for both weekends go on sale Friday, January 5 at noon.
