Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong took over the New York club Berlin on New Years Eve for a surprise show. He played with a star – studded glam-punk squad that included The Replacements’ Tommy Stinson, The E Street Band’s Steven Van Zandt, Blondie’s Clem Burke, The Hold Steady’s Tad Kubler, Jesse Malin and his collaborator Don DiLego, Billie Joe’s sons, and others. Billie Joe and friends’ set list included a handful of punk covers like The Replacements’ 1983 classic “Color Me Impressed.” (Billie Joe briefly sang with The Replacements at select shows when they reunited in 2014).

That time your band is Green Day, Blondie, The Hold Steady + @johnny_pisano. AND you’re in a room full of your favorite people. AND I have no damn clue how I got there, but it was a blast. A huge thanks to @billiejoearmstrong and @jesse_malin for dedicating themselves selflessly to the evening for the joy of all. As well as all the musicians who played and played. AND the @cat_popper wardrobe changes. Was blessed to be a part of it. #HappyNewYears good people of earth. And thanks @gail_hoffman for the pics! Now it’s time to write some new songs.
