Noisey is premiering the video for Rey Pila’s “Alexander” from their Cult Records-released single “Alexander/Lady in Red”.
The video was filmed in Toronto with director Sammy Rawal (AlunaGeorge, Metric, The New Pornographers). The band notes, “When Sammy (director) first sent us his idea for the video we immediately clicked with it. All we had sent him were a few visual references, and were pretty clear on the look we wanted the video to have, we wanted the video to tell some kind of story, with some amount of darkness to it.” Rawal adds, “The video for ‘Alexander’ tells a story of a corrupt tarot card reader / psychic who hustles customers out of their money. Intercut with the narrative are high-energy performances from the star of the video, Ila Kavanagh, in which she lip syncs Diego’s vocals. It was filmed over two days in Toronto, in the back of a friend’s antique and oddities shop.”
“Alexander” comes from the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, recorded at DFA Studios in New York City and produced by Chris Coady (Beach House, Smith Westerns, Wavves).
